'Racconto'; signed and dated '73 (lower right); signs of age (margins browned); sheet dimensions approx. 76 x 53 cm; provenance: private collection, Regensburg. Santomaso (1907–1990) was a Venetian painter, etcher, and lithographer who initially studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and soon thereafter participated in the renowned Biennale. Inspired by avant-garde art and impressions from his travels, he developed an abstract visual language from the 1950s onwards that was shaped by the architectural elements of Venice. In addition to his academic work, he was involved in founding progressive artist groups and participated in international exhibitions such as Documenta. Santomaso left behind a significant artistic legacy upon his death in 1990.
